Welcome to the South West Dental Nurse Training offering the NEBDN National Diploma for Dental Nurses course, OSCE Revision Days. Our course is fully accredited and registered by the NEBDN (National Examining Board). Our aim is to provide a consistently high standard of training and support. Our dedicated team is here to support you through the qualification. Courses are offered to students in the following locations; Avon: Bath, Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Berkshire and surrounding areas. We also have some courses available online now.

The National Diploma

The National Diploma is a qualification approved by the General Dental Council (GDC) for statutory registration which became mandatory for all dental nurses from 31st July 2008. Under the GDC regulations, unqualified dental nurses may only work under supervision as trainees provided they are enrolled on a theoretical training course at an approved training centre. In order to be awarded the qualification, a candidate must complete the Electronic Record of Experience and pass the National Diploma Examination. The Electronic record of experience must be completed to register for the exams.
Exams are held in April/June and November/January. Our next course for the Diploma commences in April 2020, Spaces are limited so book yours now. For further information please contact us.
The exam

Course Delivery and Assessment;
- Students are required to attend formal classes along with their practical work placement to fulfill the Diploma course requirements.
- Homework and revision sessions are scheduled within the time table.
- Lecture notes are sent electronically following each lecture and a tutor is always on hand to answer any questions outside of the scheduled class times.
- NEBDN constantly monitors and reviews the structure of the qualification and candidates are assessed on each part of the examination by the panel examiners, which will be verified by the National Examination Committee

Over the course of twenty years, I have worked in dental related fields and have held various roles in Dental Nursing, Practice Management, Implant Co-ordination and have been providing the NEBDN National Diploma for Dental Nurses Course for over ten years. I am driven by the desire to be a service in helping others develop and achieve their career goals and to bring out the best in them.


Claire Maasz, ROE Course Tutor
I have worked in dentistry for over thirty years as a Dental Nurse, Oral Health Educator and Hygienist. During the last five years I have completed teaching and assessing qualifications and have been producing and delivering classroom sessions and workshops for the NEBDN National Diploma for Dental Nurse's course as well as assessing student portfolios. I have been an examiner for the NEBDN OSCE's for the last seven years.


Jessica Pompey, Course Tutor (RDN)
I started my career in dentistry in 2000 as a dental nurse and quickly progressing and completing postgraduate qualifications in Dental Sedation and Radiography.  I have also gained certificates in Fluoride Application, Plaque Scoring and Impression taking and advanced training in implants. After taking a keen interest in teaching I went on to gain Level 3 City & Guilds qualification in Education & Training. I very much enjoy investing my time in developing new students and inspiring them to do the job I love.


Nebdn Radiography Certificate:
South West Dental Nurse Training would like to introduce the NEBDN Certificate in Dental Radiography Course. The course is based on the NEBDN curriculum which is designed to provide Dental Nurses with the educational experience, including the knowledge, critical understanding, intellectual skills, practical skills and personal attitude to enable them to provide effective and safe radiography for dental patients.  
There are 16 topics to be covered in the syllabus and we offer blended learning with class based sessions or our online option.There is also a Record of Competence to be completed as part of the course.

Entry Requirements:
To apply for the course, the student must be GDC registered and provide a copy of their registration certificate and you must have the support of your employer who will supervise you throughout the course.

Nebdn Oral Health Education Certificate:
Course Objective
The main objective of the course is that, upon completion, dental nurses should be competent to offer oral health education to patients without supervision. Completion of a Record of Competence is required.

The course is based on the NEBDN curriculum, which covers 6 topics:
Maintaining Good Clinical Practice.
General Health and Disease.
Patient Assessment and Treatment Planning.
Patient Management.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
Management, Leadership and Working with Others.

Course delivery
All academic sessions (lectures, demonstrations, and tutorials) will be delivered using webinars and blended learning.
Each student must have a valid email address.
Attendance to any workshops or face-to-face meetings is essential and compulsory.
